Cort MGM-1 Matt Murphy Electric Guitar

About the guitar

The Cort MGM-1 Matt “Guitar” Murphy Signature electric guitar is a tribute to the legendary blues guitarist Matt “Guitar” Murphy, known for his work with the Blues Brothers and icons like Howlin’ Wolf and James Cotton. Designed in collaboration with Murphy, this Korean-made instrument combines classic blues aesthetics with modern versatility.

The MGM-1 features a double-cutaway body reminiscent of PRS designs, crafted from agathis with a carved quilted maple top. Its amber burst finish and gold hardware provide a vintage appeal. The set mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard offers a comfortable 24.75” scale length and 22 frets, adorned with block inlays.

Equipped with dual Mighty Mite humbuckers, the guitar delivers rich, warm tones suitable for blues and rock. A push-pull tone control allows for coil-splitting, offering single-coil sounds for added tonal flexibility. The 3-way selector switch and master volume and tone controls provide straightforward sound shaping.

Players appreciate the MGM-1’s playability, noting its comfortable neck profile and low action. The guitar’s build quality and tonal range make it a valuable instrument for both collectors and performers. Though discontinued, the Cort MGM-1 remains a sought-after model for those seeking a versatile guitar with a connection to blues history.
